Recently, I spoke with one of the Washington County commissioners, pointing out that the 4-H program helps to bring more then $200,000 of consumer spending into Woodbury from people who live in other counties.
Cutting all county funding for 4-H, as is proposed, would stop members from being in fairs and events beyond local clubs. But the county could cut some funding and still maintain an active program, said 4-H regional director Pat Morreim.
Facing the reality of a loss in state aid funding and a continued decrease in fee revenue sources, Washington County is planning to make up for projected budget shortfalls by cutting an additional $3.2 million from its 2009 budget.
4-H Washington County is recruiting members to enjoy the many opportunities the organization provides.
