  • Following the 7.0 earthquake in Haiti, entire homes and cities were destroyed and thousands of people found themselves on the streets.
  • Whereas some Haitians set up tents outside to replace their destroyed homes, others just curled up with a pillow and blanket to get some sleep.
  • The Five Oaks Community Church members said they wished they could have helped in Haiti after the earthquake, but the devastation and destruction was too great and they were not trained in disaster relief.
  • All of God's Children orphanage, which Five Oaks Community Church has helped to construct, received almost no damage following the earthquake.
  • During the earthquake, many of the children were frightened, but before long they were back to smiling and laughing with the volunteers.
  • After locating a military transport at the U.S. Embassy, the volunteers took armored suburbans to the military base because it was their best chance to get out of the city since the streets were so crowded with people.
  • The volunteers rode in a military transport from Haiti to New Jersey and in jump seats the entire way.
  • When the team arrived at the military base in New Jersey, there were rows and rows cots laid out for them to rest on if they wanted to get some sleep before flying out once more.
