Viewpoint: Forget the harm principle -- just ask if it's wise
In his well known essay “On Liberty,” the 19th century utilitarian-libertarian philosopher J.S. Mill famously wrote that “ … the only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community against his will, is to prevent harm to others … in [whatever] merely concerns himself, over his own body and mind, the individual is sovereign … .”
