Viewpoint: Increased emphasis on youth athletics hurting ‘family time’ chat

I agree. These are opportunities available to kids if they want to participate. No one is forced to play a sport. It is the parents responsibility to make sure the child has proper balance in their lives. If the child is not performing in the classroom remove him/her from the sport or don't let them play to start with. I believe the Athletic Associations are doing what they are supposed to do. Provide athletic opportunites for those that want them.

I might be mistaken, but I believe the Athletic Associations are OPTIONAL, which means that if you don't want to participate then don't. The athletic associations in our area do an outstanding job scheduling and creating an environment where students can develop. Working in a team setting also helps build multiple life skills that benefit every kid, even if they don't get your free ride scholarship. I like it that our kids have the OPPORTUNITES to remain active and continue their growth in many different avenues.
