Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Rev. Nick Schneider, was held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 7, at Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, Bismarck. Burial was at 1 p.m. at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation was held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, where a vigil/rosary began at 7 p.m. Visitation continued 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Michael was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Bismarck, the son of Joseph and Theresa (Schmaltz) Senger. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1939. On July 13, 1942, he entered the U.S. Navy and served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 20, 1945. Michael married Geri Koch on June 5, 1958, at Church of St. Mary, Bismarck. He was employed for 40 years with MDU in Bismarck as a construction foreman until his retirement in 1986.
Michael was involved with St. Mary's Central High School Boosters, St. Mary's Carnival, and Flickertail Woodcarvers, and was a continuous member of American Legion for the past 50+ years, a lifetime member of the Bismarck Elks, a charter member of the Bismarck Zoo, and a charter member of Gateway to Science Center.
Michael played softball for Roosevelt Bar and went to Austin, Texas, for two national championship games. He bowled for Schneider's Standard, winning the Midways Four-Member Quads League in 1964. He also earned the Triplicate Chevron in bowling.
Michael is survived by his wife, Geri Senger, Woodbury; his children: Michelle Collins (Sparb), Bismarck; Cheryl (Mark) Elsbernd, Woodbury; Michael (Nancy) Senger, Aberdeen, S.D.; Mary Senger, Woodbury; Susan (Terry) Johnson, Cottage Grove, Minn.; and Patricia (Darcy) Sperle, Woodbury; his grandchildren, Amanda Collins, Brandon Collins, Laura Elsbernd, Kristin Elsbernd, Michael Elsbernd, Scott Senger, Matthew Senger, Andrea Senger, Abigail Johnson, Kate Johnson, Andrew Sperle, and Maggie Sperle; his sisters Arlene (Pius) Keller, Bismarck, and Donna Holta, Anchorage, Alaska; and his sister-in-law Irene Senger, Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John (Clara) Senger, William Senger, Thomas Senger, and Joe Senger; his sisters Betty (Charlie) Bundett, Ann Klein, Cecile Senger, Helen Senger; and his brother-in-law Ed Holta.
