Police reports: Smoke break begets burglary sighting, coworker slugfest, phone thief's photo foils own crime, more ...

Police responded Jan. 29 to the 11000 block of Aster Way for a theft report. A Cottage Grove construction company reported $800 worth of house wrap material was stolen from a construction site.

A customer of Simply Storage, 881 Weir Drive, reported Jan. 30 that multiple items had been stolen from the storage locker he rents. Boxes containing DVDs, CDs and VHS tapes were stolen. A power saw was also taken. A padlock had been cut of the unit. Loss: $5,000.

An officer on patrol Jan. 30 in the 3500 block of Parkers Drive reported seeing a male standing near a parked vehicle at Ridge Park. The man’s hands appeared to be below his waist and he made another motion at crotch level after spotting the officer before jumping back in the vehicle. The male, identified as a Woodbury man, admitted to urinating outside the vehicle. He received a verbal warning and was instructed to use the bathroom at his friend’s nearby house the next time.

A resident in the 7200 block of Guider Drive reported Jan. 30 that he stepped into the apartment building’s underground garage for a cigarette when he spotted a burglary in progress. He heard a rustling noise, then saw a man next to his storage unit. The suspect ran off. Nothing appeared missing. The man said he would have confronted the suspect, but was apprehensive due to his height and muscular build.

A Woodbury resident reported a possible burglary Feb. 1. The man told police that people connected to his “drug-ridden past have been spying on him.” The man said that included a hole drilled through his apartment’s ceiling, from which he said he observed a thin line emerge one day. He suspected the line was a surveillance device. The resident said he came home on Jan. 29 and saw a neighbor inside his apartment, which was still locked.

Police responded Feb. 2 to Crossroads Church, 5900 Woodbury Drive, for an intoxicated person. Police found a woman seated in her car along with her two Alcoholics Anonymous sponsors standing near her. The woman, who police had been taken to detox the week prior, was being prevented by the women from driving away in her car. Police said the woman appeared intoxicated and refused to provide a blood-alcohol test. Officers attempted to place the woman in a squad to take her to detox, but she resisted, causing the officer to pick her up and place her in the squad against her will. The woman was brought to the Dakota County detox facility.

Police were called Feb. 3 to a report of up to 10 males fighting the street. Upon arrival, officers heard loud yelling from inside a nearby residence, where a resident shut the garage door and refused to open the door. The man eventually answered the door and was confrontational with the officers about their presence. He was told to stay in the house for the night.

A worker at Woodbury Senior Living, 7012 Lake Road, reported Feb. 3 that co-worker had assaulted him. The man said he and the coworker had argued earlier and as they were about to leave work, the other man asked if he was “ready for him.” As they were walking out, the coworker, a St. Paul man, blocked the doorway and kicked him. The St. Paul man said the man punched him and kicked back in self defense.

A Woodbury woman reported Feb. 4 that her smartphone was stolen at Woodbury 10 Theater, 1470 Queens Drive. The woman said her phone fell out of her jacket at a movie. The woman later discovered a new photo in her Dropbox account, an online storage system that stores data in the “cloud." The Dropbox account had also been installed on the phone. The photo was of a person determined to be a Minneapolis man. Police went to the movie theater, where staff identified the person in the photo as a cleaner there. Police contacted the suspect’s stepfather, who retrieved the phone from the suspect at his school. The phone was later returned to the woman.

Police were called Feb. 4 to a Woodbury residence for a report of an unusual situation. A complainant reported seeing a man shoveling the complainant’s driveway. Police made contact with the man, who confirmed he was shoveling the driveway for the complainant.

Officers responded Feb. 4 to a peeping complaint, where neighbors reported someone was looking into windows. A track of the footprints revealed the person was reading meters, not looking in windows.
