The Royals got the monkey off their back.
Woodbury defeated nemesis White Bear Lake 43-38 on Tuesday in White Bear Lake, snapping an 11-game losing streak to the Bears.
In the Suburban East Conference win, Woodbury (15-7; 11-4 SEC) took a 19-15 lead at the half and held on.
Woodbury senior Kristina White posted a game-high 19 points in the victory. Also, Kayla Bilski chipped in nine points. In all, seven players scored for the Royals.
The last time Woodbury beat the conference and section rival was on Feb. 17, 2009. White Bear Lake (11-12; 10-5 SEC) has ended Woodbury’s season the last four years in the Section 4AAA playoffs.
Next, Woodbury welcomes Forest Lake (16-6; 8-6 SEC) to the Lion’s Den on Friday. During the game, the 2003 Woodbury girls basketball team will be honored for winning the 2003 state championship 10 years ago. Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
