The Woodbury girls basketball team won its fifth-straight game last week, crushing Suburban East Conference foe Stillwater 61-33 on Friday at Woodbury High School. Woodbury has now won seven of its past eight games – its only loss coming to No. 4-ranked Roseville. Woodbury also beat Hudson, Wis., 59-32 last Tuesday. The wins improved the Royals’ record to 14-7 overall and 10-4 in the SEC, which is good for third place.
In the win over Stillwater, Woodbury opened up a 48-16 halftime lead on the Ponies, before setting it in cruise control. Senior guard Kristina White had a game-high 28 points, nearly outscoring Stillwater (5-17; 1-13 SEC) on her own. Senior Courtney Schiffler added 17 points for the Royals in the win.
Woodbury traveled to nemesis White Bear Lake on Tuesday, after the Bulletin went to print. The Bears (11-11; 10-4 SEC) have won 11 straight over Woodbury, including a 48-39 win back in January at WHS. The last time the Royals beat the Bears was on Feb. 17, 2009. White Bear Lake has also ended Woodbury’s season the last four years in the Section 4AAA playoffs.
Next, Woodbury welcomes Forest Lake (16-6; 8-6 SEC) to the Lion’s Den on Friday. During the game, the 2003 Woodbury girls basketball team will be honored for winning the 2003 state championship 10 years ago. Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m.
