The monkey is off their back.
The Woodbury boys hockey team on Thursday snapped a conference winless streak that had stretched back to December 2011 with a shutout victory over Stillwater.
The Royals won 4-0 in the home game at Bielenberg Ice Arena and improved their overall record to 6-9-3 and their Suburban East Conference record to 1-8-3.
Woodbury entered the game riding a 27-game winless streak in the SEC. Until Thursday, the last time the Royals had defeated a conference opponent was on Dec. 8, 2011, when they beat Cretin-Derham Hall.
Senior goaltender Evan Broadbent recorded the shutout against Stillwater, stopping all 48 shots he faced.
Four different Royals players scored Thursday: seniors Ford Pendleton, Sam Gazzola, Dan Armstrong and sophomore Hayden Shaw.
