The Woodbury girls basketball team continued to stay strong in the Suburban East Conference last week. The Royals brought down Stillwater 66-43 on Friday, Jan. 4, rebounding from a 65-33 thumping at the hands of No. 1-ranked Hopkins the night before.

In the win over Stillwater, Woodbury (7-3; 4-1 SEC) opened up a 34-15 lead at the half and cruised to the win. Woodbury senior guard Kristina White scored a game-high 18 points in the victory. In addition, senior forward Courtney Schiffler scored 13 points. Paige Becker had 17 points to lead the Ponies (3-9; 0-5 SEC).

The relatively easy win over Stillwater came in stark contrast to a 32-point loss just 24 hours earlier to Hopkins (13-0).

The other Royals squad took a 31-16 halftime lead and never looked back, outscoring Woodbury 34-17 in the second half. White had 14 points for Woodbury, but was the only Royals player to score more than 4 points in the game. Senior forward Nia Coffey had a game-high 19 points for Hopkins, which had three players in double figures.

Woodbury is back in the SEC this week. The Royals took on conference and section rival White Bear Lake (the defending champ in each regard) on Tuesday, after the Bulletin went to print. Next up, Woodbury travels to Forest Lake (9-3; 2-3 SEC) to take on the Rangers on Friday, Jan. 11 at 7:15 p.m.
