As soon as Punch Pizza announced plans to open its eighth location in Woodbury on Wednesday, the re-tweets, likes, questions and comments on social media sites quickly began flowing in.
“The minute we signed a lease we wanted to make sure that everyone knew we’re coming,” said Jenny Nyquist, senior manager for Punch Pizza. “People are just as excited as we are.”
Punch Pizza will open right across from City Hall on Valley Creek Road and City Centre Drive next to the FedEx office.
The restaurant is based in Minnesota with locations in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Eden Prairie and Wayzata.
Nyquist said restaurant officials have been looking to add a location in Woodbury for some time and finally found the right fit with plans to open in June 2013.
Punch Pizza specializes in Neapolitan pizza that cooks in an 800-degree wood-burning oven and is ready within 90 seconds.
“Just like you would get in Naples, Italy,” Nyquist said.
The restaurant will take over the empty 2,000 square foot space that was left vacant when FedEx downsized. It will allow for ample indoor seating and an outdoor dining space, Nyquist said.
“A really, really nice patio off the side of the building,” she added. “Who doesn’t like eating outside in Minnesota summers?”
Just like other Punch Pizza stores, the Woodbury one will have the same feel and style. Patrons order and pay for their pizza then either take it home or dine in.
Punch Pizza plans to serve salads, appetizers, beer and wine as well.
