Woodbury gymnastics: Royals edged by Mounds View in first meet

The Woodbury gymnastics team hit the gym for its first meet of the 2012-13 season, but couldn’t come away with a win.

The Woodbury gymnastics team hit the gym for its first meet of the 2012-13 season, but couldn’t come away with a win.

The youthful Royals put up a solid 128.3 score, but Mounds View was just slightly better on the night with a 134.25. Woodbury has only one senior in its active varsity lineup this season.

Sophomore MacKenzie Beck had a nice all-around score for the Royals, totaling 32.875 to take third place overall. In addition, seventh grader Allison Trebesch had a 32.725 to take fourth. Beck’s top score for the meet came on the beam with a 8.2, which was a team-high. She also scored a team-high 8.025 on the bars to go along with an 8.025 in the floor exercise and an 8.625 on the vault. Trebesch had the high score of the meet for Woodbury, tallying a 9.125. She also had a 7.4 on the bars, a 7.65 on the beam and an 8.55 in the floor exercise.

Other top scores for Woodbury were turned in by: freshman Maddie Pearson with an 8.425 in the floor exercise and an 8.05 on the beam; junior Rose Peterson with an 8.3 in the vault and senior Maddy Haut with an 8.2 in the vault.

Next, Woodbury plays host to perennial powerhouse Roseville on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Woodbury. The meet begins at 6:30 p.m.
