East Ridge gymnastics: Raptors topped by Roseville in opener

The East Ridge gymnastics team endured a tough draw to start the year when it opened the 2012-13 season with a Suburban East Conference meet against perennial power Roseville. The Raiders didn’t disappoint, scoring 141.2 points while beating the Raptors, which scored 128.25 points.
East Ridge gymnasts earned two first-place finishes in the meet. Junior Kelly McKenzie finished first in the vault with a score of 9.25 and freshman Megan Trollen earned first-place on the bars with a 9.125.
Freshman Karina Joiner scored an 8.55 for the Raptors’ top score in the vault, which was good for fourth overall. Senior Libby Lawrence had the Raptors’ top score in the floor exercise with an 8.625, which placed her fourth overall and freshman Kelsey Deverell scored a 7.6 on the beam for the Raptors top score in the event, which put her in sixth place. Sophomore Annie Trollen had East Ridge’s best all-around score with a 31.575, just ahead of Lawrence, who had a score of 31.175. Roseville’s Jessica Strecker won the all-around competition with a score of 36.95.
Next, East Ridge is at Hastings for another SEC meet on Thursday, Dec. 6.
