Liquor licenses approved
Afton City Council approved 2013 liquor licenses during its Nov. 20 meeting.
Both Sail Away Café and the Afton House Inn, including Current and Swirl Wine Bar, received liquor license renewals.
Re-siding to be discussed
Afton City Council discussed a proposal from Afton Planning Commission to amend city ordinance to require a building permit for re-siding and replacement of doors and windows during its Nov. 20 meeting.
Planning Commission Chairwoman Barb Ronningen said the change was in order to align the city ordinance with the international building code.
Additionally, Ronningen said the city’s fee schedules should be reviewed given the current building permit fees would be considered high for the replacement of a door or window.
City Council opted to table the discussion until its December meeting given that council members Randy Nelson and Peg Nolz were absent.
Meeting set for flood project
Afton City Council will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 18, prior to the City Council meeting, to discuss the changes that have transpired with regard to the city’s flood mitigation project.
Cedar Bluff letter of credit lowered
Afton City Council approved the third deduction in the Cedar Bluff Homestead’s letter of credit during its Nov. 20 meeting.
The current letter of credit remaining is $285,000, and City Council will continue to hold 10 percent of that until final acceptance.
The initial letter of credit represented 150 percent, $1.5 million, of the improvements that have taken place during the three phases of the project.
The letter of credit reduction releases funds for the developer to pay its contractors.
Cedar Bluff will be Afton’s first clustered housing development and will have 25 individual lots, and will include 70 acres of land in a conservation easement.
Afton City Council to discuss historical society funding
Afton City Council discussed a proposal from the Washington County Historical Society to contribute $1,000 to its Washington County Heritage Center renovation project during its Nov. 20 meeting.
Council members opted to discuss the matter at an upcoming 2013 budget work session to see if they can budget for it.
City Council Member Bill Palmquist was in favor of it, whereas City Council Member Joe Richter was against it.
“The problem if we open that door is that there are a lot of organizations that can benefit from $1,000,” he said. “Is it our role to fund organizations like this with tax money?”
Afton property rezoned
Afton City Council approved the rezoning of a property from agricultural preserve to agriculture during its Nov. 20 meeting.
The property, owned by David and Beth Finch, is located at 13804 40th Street.
