The Afton Area Business Association’s annual May Fair is often considered the unofficial start of spring for many of its attendees, but this year it will be noticeably absent.
The Afton Area Business Association has decided to merge the annual event with Memorial Lutheran Church’s annual Strawberry Festival.
The Strawberry Festival will be June 22-23.
Kathy Jarvis, of the Afton House Inn, said the business association decided to discontinue May Fair next year because the event would often fall victim to rain and tornados and would sometimes get lost in the shuffle of other art fairs happening in the spring and summer.
The 2013 Strawberry Festival will include a dinner at the church, a European style Flea Market with second-hand gifts in the park, artists showcasing their work throughout the town, local businesses will offer special strawberry activities and specials and the event will also feature a business expo.
