A Woodbury man made his first court appearance this month on allegations that he wrecked a woman’s vehicle by beating on it.

Louis Verdere White IV, 27, was charged with one count of first-degree property damage, a felony. The charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to a criminal complaint, police were called June 20 to Demori’s Restaurant in Oakdale on a report of a male damaging cars in the parking lot.

Police located the suspect, later identified as White, standing next to a black vehicle. As an officer approached him, White began yelling “shoot me, shoot me, shoot me,” the complaint states.

Police said White, who was described as intoxicated and wearing “a very angry look on his face,” was noncompliant with officers’ commands. He was eventually arrested.

Officers inspected the black vehicle and found its side mirror had been broken off and was lying on the ground. A door handle was damaged and police found dents on the door, the complaint states. The vehicle’s owner said she didn’t know White or why he would have attacked her vehicle.

Other witnesses stated seeing the suspect attempt to “beat up” a car – attempting to break its window and trying to tear its windshield wipers off – in the parking lot, according to the complaint. Witnesses said he was spotted attacking other vehicles in the lot while screaming profanities.

Police said the damage inflicted to the black vehicle totaled $1,263.

White is due in court again on Jan. 3.
