It was a day for solemn remembrances.

Across the nation and in Woodbury, people recognized the service of the nation’s veterans. In Woodbury, ceremonies began on Friday, Nov. 9, where students at Footprints Academy honored military members.

The city’s annual Veterans Day ceremony took place at the Woodbury City Hall Sunday, where speakers also honored local and area veterans.

The ceremony included heart-felt remarks by Navy Commander Denise Spanier, who got teary-eyed as she thanked her family for being there for her during her time of service.

Spanier, who gave the Veterans Day address, presented a WWII victory medal to Raymond Burrows Sunday.

Events in Woodbury concluded at Woodbury High School, where Junior ROTC members conducted a program honoring veterans. Speakers at the event included WHS Principal Linda Plante.

“We shall endeavor to serve our veterans as they have served our nation,” she said.

Junior ROTC members later read letters penned by veterans while caps representing different branches of the armed forces were laid on a table.
