The Bulletin asked District 622 School Board candidates the following questions:

Q: What do you see as the major issues facing District 622?

A: The face of 622 is changing. As a district we must bridge learning gaps so we raise student achievement for every child. Each of our students deserves the right to reach their potential. Our obstacles are challenging with escalating rates of homeless students and families, rising numbers of families in poverty and an obsolete funding formula. We have to continue finding ways to make systemic changes for success for each and every student.

Q: How do you think the district should address learning gaps within its schools?

A: We need to build from our success such as: two of our elementary schools are among the highest performing in the state. We need to model that in our other schools. We need to champion for programs rich in cultural opportunities. Our staff initiatives must be purposeful so that they are skilled and adapting to the growing needs and demands of our students and families. We need to take the necessary measures to involve all families.

Q: How can the district incorporate technology into the classroom?

A: The methods of incorporating technology are endless; it is much more than providing iPads, or tablets, for every student. Replacing textbooks, allowing more hand held devices and expanding curricular options for digital “white board” are just a few. We should expand online learning for our students and increase the number of interactive programs such as Khan Math academy.

Theresa Augé is an incumbent for District 622 School Board.
