The Bulletin asked Afton City Council candidates the following questions:
Q: What do you see as the major issues facing Afton?
A: Managing development and protection of our natural resources while containing costs and using City funds effectively and efficiently.
Q: How would you like to see the city’s flood mitigation project progress?
A: Carefully and under tight control by the Afton City Council. This is a large, complex project with the potential for open ended financial obligations for the city. But it’s also an opportunity for us to partner and cost-share with various agencies to address multiple issues we face such as storm water treatment and flooding and road infrastructure in the Old Village. I support moving ahead with the project as long as it makes financial sense to do so.
Q: How do you think the city should manage development?
A: We have a knowledgeable and experienced Planning Commission as well as a good blueprint for development in our Comprehensive Plan and ordinances. The Comprehensive Plan was developed after literally years of input and effort by the community and it has been approved and accepted by the Met Council. It is the council’s ongoing challenge to utilize and administer it in a fair and consistent manner and continue to seek out new tools that will help us accomplish our goals.
Pat Snyder, the incumbent, is running unopposed for Afton mayor
