Candidate's viewpoint: Andrea Kieffer
As Election Day draws near, I hope we have had the chance to connect. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that I hear from you.
As Election Day draws near, I hope we have had the chance to connect. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that I hear from you. Your state Representative is the closest tie to the state government that you have, and with your support, I will continue to be your voice at the Capitol. I would like you to know that even though I am a Republican, I share all opinions (keeping your name anonymous) regardless of whether I agree with them personally or politically.
This summer, I have knocked on just about every single door in our district. Although sometimes it is inconvenient for you as a homeowner to answer the door during dinner or nap time, it is my goal to try to connect with you. As I often say, “I just want you to know who I am, and how to get a hold of me.” At the end of the day, I strive to be respectful to everyone, treat each issue with discernment and integrity, and stay true to my core principles of fiscal responsibility, limited government, and freedom.
At the door, I often hear people complain that “you (politicians) can’t get along, everything is so divisive.” Well remember, the media wants excitement and drama, so often times the “boring stuff” gets ignored. Although the Vikings stadium and the budget impasse played center stage in the news, there were many great reforms that we passed last session that will control spending and increase transparency moving forward. It is encouraging that data shows our state economy is in fact turning around.
Back in 2010, my focus was on jobs, the economy, and education reform. I recognize that we, the taxpayers, expect services in the areas of transportation, parks and recreation, health and human services, and good public schools. My belief is that this starts with people earning a living and/or seeking financial independence, fiscal responsibility in government, and debt reduction. These factors combined make services affordable, and we can reap the benefits of our shared goals.
This November, you will have many check marks to make on your ballot. Please complete the entire ballot. I am working hard to earn your vote again. It would be an honor to serve you another term and continue our good work.
Kieffer is the Republican incumbent running for House District 53B
