Letter to the editor: On the wrong track toward light rail in Woodbury

Thank you so very much Rep. Peggy Scott and committee members (including our own Sen. Ted Lillie) for the hearings on Sept. 25 and Oct. 12 by the legislative commission on metropolitan government.

Thank you so very much Rep. Peggy Scott and committee members (including our own Sen. Ted Lillie) for the hearings on Sept. 25 and Oct. 12 by the legislative commission on metropolitan government.

These hearings exposed the horrific destruction and damage wreaked by the Metropolitan Council on University Avenue. The Central Corridor put out of business the only profit making bus line in the Twin Cities. And it destroyed the wonderful businesses along University Avenue (including Porky’s) which had truly become an icon for Minnesota.

The Metropolitan Council literally bulldozed those businesses out of existence and to watch their responses to the testimony of destroyed business owners was astounding as they showed absolutely no remorse. The light rail train is to them a symbol of almost religious significance. It is beyond transit. Their own experts (Yingling Fan) clearly state the metro population density is too low to support these vehciles. Their core plan is to chance the way we live, where we work and how we travel, whether or not we like it.

So beware my fellow beloved Woodbury citizens. I must warn you. On Thursday, Oct. 11, the Gateway Corridor Commission met at City Hall in Woodbury. The senior planner and chairperson of that committee clearly put forward plans to study light rail coming to Woodbury. It was clearly laid out in their policy advisory committee recommendation.

I ask you please before our beautiful Woodbury is bulldozed by the Met Council, contact our mayor and local and state representatives to stop this.
