Letter to the editor: Ward possesses strong, tested skills

On Nov. 6, we will go to the polls to express our support for the candidates we feel are best equipped to tackle the challenges facing our state.

On Nov. 6, we will go to the polls to express our support for the candidates we feel are best equipped to tackle the challenges facing our state. Despite the positive signs of an improving economy, there are many Minnesotans still looking for work, schools must be paid back, health care issues must be addressed – especially for the growing number of children living in poverty, and our aging infrastructure, including our transit system and bridges, must be made a priority. This daunting list will require talented legislators who won’t rely on partisan politics, funding gimmicks, mortgaging our children’s future, or shutting down state government.

JoAnn Ward brings strong and tested skills, including the ability to listen and find meaningful resolution in the midst of conflict and division. Rather than focusing on party labels and divisive agendas, JoAnn will work with all of her colleagues, both Republican and Democratic as well those from rural, suburban and urban legislative districts.

The late writer, religious leader and Army captain, William Arthur Ward (I’m pretty sure he’s not related to JoAnn!), said, “Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe: practice. Do more than be fair: be kind. Do more than forgive: forget. Do more than dream: work.”

JoAnn Ward exemplifies the attributes William Arthur Ward stresses, attributes that will bring clarity and wise thinking to the state Capitol at a time when they are so critically needed. I hope that you will join me in voting for JoAnn Ward to represent all of us who live in House District 53A on Nov. 6.
