Candidate's viewpoint: Paul Rebholz

By now you know the news. Woodbury was ranked as the 11th best place to live by Money Magazine in its annual survey this summer. It’s not the first time we made this list. And it’s not an accident.

By now you know the news. Woodbury was ranked as the 11th best place to live by Money Magazine in its annual survey this summer. It’s not the first time we made this list. And it’s not an accident.

Comprehensive planning, financial discipline, and stable, consistent management and leadership from elected officials and staff play a crucial role in the community we call home. Bielenberg, Currell, Wolterstorff, Guider, Pouliot, Lacina, Johnson, Hargis – streets and community assets, yes; but more importantly people who paved the Woodbury we enjoy today, mentoring people in the process.

I was first elected to the City Council in November 2004, and re-elected in November 2008. My wife and I have called Woodbury home for 20 years – raising our two sons in this award winning community. During this time, I’ve been an active volunteer and board member with such successful organizations as Woodbury Days (1996); the Woodbury Chamber of Commerce (1996-2002); the city’s Economic Development Commission (1998-2004); the Washington County HRA (2002-2004); University of Wisconsin-River Falls Foundation (1998-2007); Woodbury Lions Club (2008-present); St. Ambrose Catholic Church and School (1998-present); and coaching WAA football and baseball (1998-present).

On the council, I have served as mayor pro-tem since January of 2007, including one month as acting mayor in August of 2008. I am chair of the Audit and Investment Commission, a position I’ve held since we formed the commission in 2009. I chaired the Commercial Comprehensive Planning Group (2005-2006); was council liaison on the Comprehensive Plan Task Force (2008-2010); and recently chaired the Eagle Valley Golf Task Force (2012).

In November of 2004, 2008 and today my emphasis was, is, and will be – investing in our community assets, managing growth consistent with our comprehensive plan, providing financial discipline, and economic development. As we begin the next stage in Woodbury’s awesome history, our three guiding principles – comprehensive planning, financial discipline, and consistent leadership – remain more important than ever.
