Letter to the editor: Sieben responded after being challenged

As a fellow resident, I want residents of the new Senate District 54 (formerly 57) know what state Sen. Katie Sieben had to go through.

As a fellow resident, I want residents of the new Senate District 54 (formerly 57) know what state Sen. Katie Sieben had to go through.

The Republican re-districting map planned to break her district up and force her to run in a Woodbury-based district. The governor vetoed their plan and the courts kept the district together.

And yet, Sieben did everything right. She held bi-partisan town meetings, co-sponsored Republican legislation, worked on getting the Hastings bridge fixed and keeping transportation funded, kept good

paying public jobs from being cut, and worked to stop a rise in local property taxes by stopping future borrowing from public education funds. So while what she had to go through was tough, I think what she did in response is incredible and deserves re-election as a result.
