Washington County authorities rounded up about 130 pounds of prescription drugs and controlled substances last month during a drug “take back” event.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office announced the total in a news release following the Sept. 29 event. Collected items included expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs. The program, which destroyed the collected drugs, was free and anonymous.

“These past and future events and the implementation of Washington County's permanent drop off location at the Washington County Law Enforcement Center will help make our communities safer,” according to a news release issued by Washington County Cmdr. Brian Mueller.
