Letter to the editor: Likable Remakel is good fit for commissioner seat

Twenty years ago, as a new District 833 science teacher, I met Nancy Remakel.

Twenty years ago, as a new District 833 science teacher, I met Nancy Remakel. I needed help locating supplies. As Nancy came to my aid, she dropped a tray of lab slides. She laughed at herself, making a funny self-depreciating remark. I laughed with her and thought, “I like this woman.”

From 1995 to 2000, Nancy and I served concurrent terms; she on the Woodbury City Council and I on the Woodbury Planning Commission. This was a time of tremendous growth in the city. When a developer made a proposal, Nancy and I would study the plans, walk the site, and visit his other projects in the metro area. Nancy did her homework. When I attended council meetings and workshops, I noted that Nancy worked well with council members and staff. Because of her leadership abilities, she was selected as mayor pro-tem. Nancy continues to serve Woodbury as chair of the city Planning Commission.

Nancy chaired the Washington County Library Board from 2005 to 2006. Her leadership resulted in significant improvements in the efficiency and quality of library service.

Nancy Remakel’s coalition-building and leadership skills are needed on the Washington County Commission. The county has not had a strategic plan since 2002. The commission, with its responsibilities for libraries, courthouses, human services, roads and highways, must function more effectively in the future.

With Nancy as District 5 Commissioner it will.

I still like Nancy Remakel; you will too.
