These two teams don’t like each other all that much.
Longtime rival soccer teams Park and Woodbury hit the field today at Woodbury High School.
Both teams have started the 2012 season strong. Park is 3-2 overall and averaging under a goal allowed per game. The Wolfpack won its first Suburban East Conference game of the year 1-0 over Cretin-Derham Hall last week. Park also has wins over Coon Rapids and Robbinsdale Cooper and played No. 6 Eagan close, but fell 1-0. Woodbury, ranked 11th in Class AA, is 2-2 to start the year. The Royals thumped rival East Ridge 4-0 last week in their SEC opener. Woodbury also beat Hill-Murray this season. In this game, the Royals will welcome Won Suk Chung to the lineup for the first time this year. Chung led East Ridge in scoring last season, but transferred to Woodbury this summer.
Other players to watch include Park senior attackers Nick Hajovy and Cody Newton, senior goalie Jordan Gollner and senior midfielders Phil Bonacorda and Josh Moreland; and, for Woodbury, senior midfielders Bobby Kostadinov and Mitch Leonard, junior Steven Jessen-Howard and sophomore Ben Miller.
Woodbury beat Park 2-1 in their only matchup last season. The two teams are 1-1-2 since the 2008 season.
The opening whistle is at 5 p.m. today.
