Two Planning Commissioners file for Afton CIty Council

Afton City Council received its first challengers Thursday, Aug. 9.
Current Planning Commission Chairwoman Barb Ronningen filed Thursday for the Ward 4 City Council seat, currently held by City Council Member Randy Nelson.
Current Planning Commission Member Kris Kopitzke filed Thursday for the Ward 1 City Council seat, currently held by City Council Member Bill Palmquist.
Both Palmquist and Nelson have filed for re-election.
No one has filed for the mayor seat held by Pat Snyder, who filed Aug. 6 for re-election.
City Council terms are four years and the mayor's term is two years.
Candidates can file at Afton City Hall during normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Filing will be open until 5 p.m. on Aug. 14. There is a cost of $2 to file.
The withdrawal period will be until 5 p.m. Aug. 16. Candidates who withdraw will not be refunded their $2.
Candidates can also file online at the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
