Incumbents file in Afton race
All three incumbents – City Council members Bill Palmquist and Randy Nelson and Mayor Pat Snyder – had filed for re-election.
After the first week of filing, the Afton City Council race looked a little familiar.
All three incumbents – City Council members Bill Palmquist and Randy Nelson and Mayor Pat Snyder – had filed for re-election.
City Council terms are four years and the mayor's term is two years.
Palmquist, who is currently serving his first term, filed Aug. 2.
Nelson, who is currently serving his second four-year term, and Snyder, who is serving her second two-year term, filed Aug. 6.
The filing period opened July 31.
Candidates can file at Afton City Hall during normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Filing will be open until 5 p.m. on Aug. 14. There is a cost of $2 to file.
The withdrawal period will be until 5 p.m. Aug. 16. Candidates who withdraw will not be refunded their $2.
Candidates can also file online at the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
