No candidates yet in Afton race

After the first day of filing, no candidates have filed for candidacy in the Afton City Council race.

Three City Council seats are up for election this November – City Council Members Bill Palmquist and Randy Nelson and Mayor Pat Snyder.

City Council Member terms are four years and the mayor's term is two years.

Palmquist and Snyder have both said previously they intend to file for re-election.

Candidates can begin filing July 30 at Afton City Council during normal business hours, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

Filing will open until 5 p.m. on Aug. 14.

There is a cost of $2 to file.

The withdrawal period will be until 5 p.m. Aug. 16. Candidates who withdraw will not be refunded their $2.

Candidates can also file online at the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website.
