Letter to the editor: Reasons abound for repealing ‘Obamacare’

William Mayo, founder of the Mayo Clinic said, “The best interest of the patient is the only interest to be considered.” This is a definition of health care in America that will be lost under Obamacare, which places a well-paid bureaucrat between you and your doctor. According to U.S. Rep. Tom Price, there are five basic principles necessary for good health care.
1. Affordability: Throughout history, nationalized industries have become less efficient, less effective, and have generated huge losses. Inefficiencies and losses generate more regulation.
2. Accessibility: When government reduces price through regulation, consumption increases and shortages occur making health care less accessible for the treatment of the sick.
3. Quality: “The best interest of the patient,” will be lost as doctors are forced to follow a complicated set of rules and regulations put in place by a Washington bureaucrat. The definition of quality of health care will be left to the discretion of the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
4. Responsiveness: Restrictions to cut costs will result in fewer physicians practicing medicine. Remaining physicians will be forced to practice “cookie-cutter” medicine in government controlled clinics.
5. Innovation: Advances in medical technology give us more options for treatment which lengthen our lives. Obamacare stifles medical innovation by taxing medical device companies for developing products valued by consumers.
6. Choices: As premiums rise, it will be cheaper for companies to pay the $2,000 fine and drop coverage for employees. This would force more people into the public option extinguishing the choice of plans.
To protect Minnesotans from the Obamacare debacle, voters must choose representatives who are against setting up government insurance exchanges in Minnesota and U.S. representatives who will support repeal of this unjust law. It’s vital that we select representatives wisely to protect the quality of life we value.
