It was a golden day for East Ridge’s Nate Roese.
Roese, a junior, became the state champion in the 400-meter dash at the 2012 State Track and Field Meet, held Friday and Saturday at Hamline University in St. Paul.
Roese won the 400 at state with a time of 47.79 seconds, edging defending state champion Austin Salargo, a senior from Hopkins who had a time of 47.91.
Last year, Roese finished second to Salargo in the 400 at state with a time of 49.07.
At the state meet, teams are awarded points and individuals earn All-State honors for finishing in the top nine places in each event.
Roese also earned All-State in the 200-meter run, taking fourth place with a time of 22.15.
Roese’s rise to the top of the 400 ranks has been meteoric. Two years ago, the Raptors’ standout finished in 13th place in the 400 at the Section 3AA Championships. However, he finished as the Section 3AA champion in the 400 last year – and this year – to go along with his state title.
