East Ridge High School seniors began their walk toward graduation last week.
Students walked laps around the school’s track as part of its senior service project.
The service project, started last year, has each senior pledge an amount of money, and a distance of how far they would walk.
All money that is raised will be put into an account that will be handed out to the following year’s seniors through a scholarship based on school involvement and recommendations from school activities advisers.
The money raised last year, totaling roughly $1,000, was handed out on May 30 during the school’s Senior Awards Ceremony to graduating senior Kyle Siemers.
This year's seniors raised about $800.
Following the walking event, seniors celebrated the end of their high school career with the senior picnic, held at the Raptor’s Nest, with a barbecue, rock climbing wall, inflatable obstacles course and bocce ball.
