The Woodbury High School graduation Sunday was filled with all kinds of emotions.

English teacher Marsha Swails got teary-eyed as she gave her speech and said farewell to the Class of 2012. Valedictorian Sheri Yuan Li told her classmates to appreciate what they’ve got as she talked about her family’s struggles while immigrating to the United States from China. Senior speaker Ryan Scott LeMay made the audience laugh with various jokes and light-hearted remarks.

Senior Karina Winkelman remembered Braedon Hyland, a friend lost in an October car crash, as she spoke about the camaraderie and friendly competition between Woodbury and East Ridge high schools. Hyland attended East Ridge.

The graduating class of 2012 heard advice from the speakers as they prepared to start new chapters of their lives.

As Li thanked them for “giving me the most memorable three years yet,” she also told them to “walk into your future with an open mind.”

“All of you have so much potential to be great,” she added.
