Woodbury boys golf: Wareham, Royals take third in conference tourney

The Woodbury boys golf team turned in one of its best performances of the year last week, finishing in a tie for third place in the 10-team Suburban East Conference championship tournament, held Wednesday, May 23, at Keller Golf Course in St. Paul.

The Woodbury boys golf team turned in one of its best performances of the year last week, finishing in a tie for third place in the 10-team Suburban East Conference championship tournament, held Wednesday, May 23, at Keller Golf Course in St. Paul.

Woodbury shot a 320 to tie White Bear Lake for third. Hastings won the tournament with a 302.

Woodbury senior captain Nate Wareham led the way with a 76 on the par-71 course – just two shots back of the leaders. In addition, senior Connor Brandt scored a 79, junior Thomas Swedenborg shot an 80 and senior Matt Hamilton carded an 85 to round out the Royals top four.

Hastings’ Matt Radke and Jacob Cooper and Forest Lake’s Trevor Thompson tied for the individual title with matching 74 scores.

Wareham earned All-Conference honors for the 2012 season, while Hamilton and Swedenborg each earned All-Conference honorable mention honors on the year.

Woodbury hit the course for Day No. 1 of the Section 3AAA tournament, back at Keller on Tuesday, May 29, after the Bulletin went to print. The top five teams and top 10 individual golfers of the section field on day No. 1 advance to day No. 2 of the section tourney held at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids on Friday, June 1.
