A man sentenced May 9 on two Woodbury-related convictions was charged the very next day with burglary.

Darnell Steven Cox, 21, was charged May 10 with one count of third-degree burglary. He had been sentenced May 9 on Woodbury-related convictions for burglary and promoting prostitution.

The latest charges allege Cox, of St. Paul, broke into multiple vehicles parked in an underground Oakdale garage.

According to a criminal complaint, Oakdale police were alerted on three separate dates in March and April 2012 of vehicle break-ins at Cedric’s Landing Apartments on Hadley Avenue.

Police confirmed nine different vehicles had been damaged or tampered with. A total of $4,000 in missing belongings was reported, which included golf clubs a computer monitor, clothing and CDs.

Surveillance footage captured images of a suspect entering the garage empty-handed and then leaving with a bag full of items. An investigator identified the suspect as Cox due to previous contacts with police.

The charges come on the heels of two Woodbury-related convictions.

Cox, along with another man, was arrested in February after vehicle break-ins were reported at Valley Creek Apartments on Century Circle. Police eventually tracked the suspects to the Red Roof Inn, where Cox and the other man were staying.

Numerous stolen belongings were found in their room. The other suspect, 41-year-old Danny Joe Beach, admitted that the vehicle they had taken to the Red Roof was stolen.

Cox admitted to the burglary and was sentenced May 9 to time served – 73 days – and five years on probation for the Woodbury burglary conviction.

The same day, Cox was also sentenced for aiding and abetting prostitution. As part of the sentence, he was placed on probation and given credit for 136 days served in jail.

In that case, Cox was accused of prostituting a Woodbury woman through the online Craigslist.com service.
