A great year for Scott Swansson just got better.
The Woodbury High School basketball coach was named co-coach of the year in Class AAAA by the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Association.
He and Osseo coach Tim Theisen shared in the honor.
When asked to comment on the award, Swansson displayed his trademark sense of humor.
“I wonder who the heck votes for that stuff,” he said by phone while on vacation in Arizona. “I was pleasantly surprised.”
Swansson led the Royals to the Section 4AAAA championship and took the team to the state tournament for the first time in five years.
He turned the Royals’ season around from a 10-16 record in 2010-11 to 21-5 this year.
Swansson said he learned of the honor Monday and was “overwhelmed” by the news.
“I didn’t expect that,” he said.
