Jimmy the cat gets his day in court

A court hearing on March 22 ruled in favor of Jimmy the cat.

Court documents state that the Animal Humane Society violated the law by not allowing a waiting period for the pet to be claimed before euthanizing him.

Animal Ark, the organization that Woodbury resident Mary Ray designated to take care of her estate including her cat Jimmy, filed the case in Washington County District Court against the Animal Humane Society and the city of Woodbury.

However, the city of Woodbury was dismissed from the case, City Attorney Mark Vierling said.

Instead, the court ordered the humane society pay a $75 fine for violating the law, in addition to court filing fees.
