Senators today passed a bill that would clear the way for Woodwinds Health Campus to expand its cancer treatment care.
The bill, which passed 52-8 on the Senate floor, calls for a moratorium governing the construction and movement of radiation to be temporarily in lifted in Woodbury.
The legislation allows chemotherapy equipment to be moved from St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood to Woodwinds. Both hospitals are part of the HealthEast organization.
A House version of the bill received its second reading on Monday, paving the way for possible passage in that chamber.
Sen. Ted Lillie, R-Lake Elmo, excused himself from voting on the bill. His wife is medical director at Woodwinds.
See the attached link for background on the legislation and Woodwinds’ efforts to secure the equipment.
