Just in time for spring, Lake Middle School will be heading to the farm this week.
Lake Middle School’s spring musical “Honk!” opens at 7 p.m. Thursday at the school. The show runs through Saturday.
“Honk!” is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale “The Ugly Duckling” and tells the story of an odd looking baby duck, Ugly, and her quest to find her mother.
Choir teacher Gillian Teoh, who is the vocal director for the show, said the school decided on “Honk!” for this year’s musical because it has a lot of humor in it.
“When we were looking through shows, we definitely knew we wanted to do a comedy and also a show that fits with our school’s goals of having a positive climate,” she said. “’Honk!’ fit in with that theme of looking for the person on the inside.”
“Honk!” is different than some of Lake’s past musicals in that it has a total of 12 songs, rather than the normal five or six.
Teoh said the cast picked up the music quickly.
“We have a very musical cast,” she said.
Teoh said audiences will greatly enjoy the comedy bits in the show because the play uses a lot of puns and physical comedy.
“Plus the bright colorful costumes are great,” she said.
Lake Middle School’s production of “Honk!” runs 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday at the school. Tickets are $2 for students, $4 adults and children 5 years old and under are free.
