New Life Academy girls basketball: Eagles’ season over

The New Life Academy girls basketball team’s season came to an end in the second round of the Section 4AA tournament with a 41-21 loss to Concordia Academy of Roseville.

The New Life Academy girls basketball team’s season came to an end in the second round of the Section 4AA tournament with a 41-21 loss to Concordia Academy of Roseville.

In the section quarterfinal, held Saturday, March 3, at Concordia Academy, the sixth-seeded Eagles fell behind 12-5 in the first half, then third-seeded Concordia Academy (17-11) outscored the Eagles 29-16 in the second half to coast to the 20-point victory.

Senior Regan Baar led the way for the Eagles in the game with seven points and six rebounds. Fellow senior Taylor Paulson added three points and 11 rebounds.

Emily Neuman had a game-high 14 points for Concordia Academy, which went on to lose to second-seeded Minneapolis Washburn in the semifinals.

To earn a trip to the section quarterfinals, NLA beat 11th-seed St. Agnes 51-23 in the first round on Thursday, March 1, at New Life Academy.

New Life (13-15) went up 28-9 in the first half against St. Agnes (4-23) then cruised to the 28-point win, outscoring St. Agnes 23-14 in the second half.

New Life sophomore guard Emily Bolduan led the way with 12 points and five rebounds, Paulson nearly had a triple-double with eight points, 13 rebounds and six assists, freshman center Valerie Hohol had 11 points and nine rebounds and Baar chipped in eight points and seven rebounds.

On the year, Bolduan led the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game, followed by Paulson at 11.8 points per game and Hohol at 8.0 points per game.

New Life must now say good-bye to three seniors – Paulson, Baar and Alexandra Schmidt – and returns nine players from this year’s roster.
