Woodbury advanced Wednesday to the Section 4AAAA semifinals with a convincing win over Stillwater.
The Royals topped the Suburban East Conference foe 79-56 in section quarterfinals, which sets the stage for a pairing with another SEC contender: White Bear Lake. The Bears upset No. 2-seeded Tartan Wednesday in a 53-50 win.
Both section semifinal games will be played Saturday night at East Ridge High School. Woodbury and White Bear Lake play the first game, set for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
The Royals beat White Bear Lake in their two regular season match-ups.
Wednesday night’s action ensured the outcome of an SEC team winning the section. Roseville topped North St. Paul 73-55 and Mounds View dropped Mahtomedi 73-53.
The Royals utilized their trademark up-tempo game – paired with a smothering defense – to earn the win over Stillwater at home.
Woodbury senior guard Rickey Suggs led all scorers with 25 points. His brother, junior guard Renard Suggs, added 13 points. A total of 11 Woodbury players recorded points in the game.
