Sen. Ted Lillie is coming to Woodbury.

The Republican lawmaker who learned two weeks ago that new political boundaries had placed him in a contested district with another senator, announced today that he intends to run in the new Senate District 53, which comprises all of Woodbury.

The decision means Lillie, a freshman legislator from Lake Elmo, must take up residence in the new district. He said that effort is already under way. He said he has placed a purchase offer on a house in Woodbury.

“We are going to continue our commitment to the community of Woodbury,” Lillie said in an interview.

His wife, Lynne, is the medical director at Woodwinds Medical Campus.

Lillie said he considered a congressional run against 4th District Congresswoman Betty McCollum, but opted to stay closer to home.

“It was really the commitment to being in Woodbury,” Lillie said. “When you’re in Congress, you’re in Washington, D.C. This, right now, is home for our family.”
