A store known for providing dietary supplements got an apparent reduction in revenue after a worker there allegedly handed out unauthorized discounts.
According to a Woodbury police report, officials at GNC, 8362 Tamarack Village, reported discovering Feb. 10 that a worker there had been using a coupon code that ended up shorting the store about $3,500 over time. The complainant told police the worker learned that a weakness in the store’s system allows a 50 percent off coupon for one product to be put toward any purchase.
Police said it did not appear the worker, an Oakdale man, substantially profited from the scam, other than the 2 percent commission he made on store-brand items. It also did not appear as though the man was directing the discounts toward anyone in particular.
Police said the case is being handled as a civil matter.
