New Life girls basketball: Eagles go 2-2 in busy week; at 11-13 overall on year

The New Life Academy girls basketball team went 2-2 in a flurry of games last week, beating Southwest Christian, 69-58, and Trinity, 54-41, and falling to Concordia Academy 52-33 and West Lutheran 58-29.

The stretch left NLA’s record at 11-13 overall and 8-5 in the MCAA.

To start the week, Concordia Academy (13-10) was too much for the Eagles on the road. Concordia built a 22-13 first-half lead and outscored the Eagles 30-20 in the second half to seal the win. Sophomore guard Emily Bolduan led the way for NLA in the defeat with a team-high 11 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals. In addition, senior Taylor Paulson scored six points and had 11 rebounds and three steals.

Against conference foe Southwest Christian (14-10; 5-7 MCAA) it took overtime, but the Eagles came away with the win. Tied 47-47, New Life exploded for 22 points in the extra period to earn the home-court victory. Paulson had a monster game for the Eagles, scored 20 points, while hauling down 16 rebounds to go along with five assists and three steals. Also, freshman Valerie Hohol netted 15 points and had eight rebounds, Bolduan scored 10 points and senior Reagan Baar had eight points and nine rebounds in the win.

Bolduan led the way in NLA’s win over MCAA foe Trinity (8-10; 6-7 MCAA) with a game-high 24 points, going 4-for-9 from behind the three-point line. Also, Hohol netted 10 points for the Eagles in the win.

In the 29-point loss to conference power West Lutheran (20-3; 11-2 MCAA), the Eagles fell behind 27-13 in the first half and couldn’t catch up. Paulson had eight points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals in the loss.

Next, the Eagles travel to Mounds Park Academy on Friday, Feb. 24.
