Two pieces of World War II history discovered in a Woodbury basement garnered a visit from the St. Paul bomb squad.

Woodbury police called in the bomb squad after a man reported finding two Japanese grenades Feb. 11 at a residence in the 2700 block of Robinwood Way.

According to a police report, the Inver Grove Heights man found the grenades – produced between 1937 and 1945, and found to contain explosive compounds – in his father in law’s basement. Family members removed the grenades – which were among some war trophies left in the basement – and posed for photos with them before placing them on the driveway in front of the house, the report states.

Bomb squad members took custody of the devices, according to the report.
