A Woodbury woman told police she had to jump from a second-story balcony last week in order to escape a domestic assault.
According to a police report, the woman appeared to have sustained a lower leg injury in the Feb. 5 fall, but made it to a neighbor’s house during the escape. That person called police to report the woman had been assaulted at a Falling Water Lane residence and was covered in blood.
The report states the woman, who was transported to Woodwinds Health Campus, “showed obvious signs of an assault.”
The suspect, 33-year-old William D. Wood, of Woodbury, was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault.
Police received reports that Wood had fled the scene on foot, so a K-9 unit was called. The dog located Wood behind the house, hiding under a tree. He was taken into custody without incident, according to the report.
Wood was found with several cuts to his face.
