Woodbury boys swimming & diving: Royals sink White Bear Lake, finish strong in relays

The Woodbury boys swimming and diving team took down Suburban East Conference foe White Bear lake 95-86 on Thursday, Feb. 2, at the White Bear Lake YMCA.
Woodbury earned first and third place in three relays in the meet. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Greg Norsten, Eric Westfall, David Khazanovich and Victor Lugg took first place with a time of 1 minute, 47.87 seconds and the Royals’ team of Brady Bennett, Garrett Norsten, Will Tostenson and Scott Bolles earned third place. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Lugg, David Khazavanovich, Nate Henning and Greg Norsten teamed up to take first place and Bolles, Will Bobo, Mathew Kroening and Garth Natwick earned third place. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Henning, Tostenson, Garrett Norsten and Bennett combined for a first-place win and Natwick, Brian Ingebrestsen, Bobo and Kroening took third place.
In individual events, Woodbury went first, second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke. Eric Westfall touched the wall first with a season-best time of 1:09.49; Brady Bennett earned second place with season-best time of 1:09.93 and Eric Fong took third place to cap the dominant performance by the Royals. Also, in the 200-yard individual medley, Greg Norsten and Lugg earned first and second, respectively. Greg Norsten earned first with a time of 2:00.76 and Lugg swam a season-best time of 2:09.66. Brady Bennett and Garrett Norsten combined to take first and second place, respectively, as well, in the 100-yard butterfly. Bennett led the way with a season-best time of 1:01.12 and Garrett Norsten earned second with a season-best time of 1:02.86.
Other first-place finishes came from Garth Natwick with a season-best time of 2:02.89 in the 200-yard freestyle, Lugg in the 100-yard freestyle and Greg Norsten in the 500-yard freestyle.
Woodbury is back in the pool on Thursday, Feb. 9, at Roseville.
