The Woodbury girls basketball team earned a 56-38 home-court win over Suburban East Conference and intra-district rival East Ridge on Friday, Feb. 3, to end a five-game losing streak.
The win helped Woodbury (6-14; 3-10 SEC) avenge a 61-55 loss to the Raptors earlier this season.
After playing to a 19-15 first-half lead, Woodbury outscored the Raptors 37-23 in the second half for th win. A well-rounded effort helped the Royals top the Raptors (7-14; 2-11 SEC) as 11 different players scored in the victory. Woodbury junior guard Kristina White led the way with a game-high 15 points. In addition, senior guard Kayla Hinton and junior forward Mikaela Hunter each netted eight points.
“It was our most complete game all year and it is something to build on,” Woodbury first-year head coach Lionel Jones said.
Woodbury nearly stopped the skid on Tuesday, Jan. 31, but fell to Cretin-Derham Hall 64-63 at Woodbury High School.
Cretin-Derham Hall (8-13; 4-9 SEC) opened up a 37-29 first-half lead in the game. However, Woodbury roared back, outscoring the Raiders 34-27 in the second half. But, the Royals couldn’t get over the hump.
White led the way with a game-high 28 points. Woodbury senior Raeanna Zellmer chipped in eight points as well.
Woodbury played host to Prairie Seeds Academy on Tuesday, Feb. 7, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Royals travel to Stillwater (9-11; 6-7 SEC) on Friday, Feb. 10.
