East Ridge’s Elizabeth Koprucki preserved her title Jan. 31 as the skier to beat in the Suburban East Conference, winning her fourth championship crown of the season.
Koprucki’s win – over 84 other racers – made it a clean sweep: she finished first in every conference meet of the year in which she competed. The only race she didn’t win was Jan. 10, which she couldn’t attend.
Her latest victory helped propel the Raptors girls to a third-place finish at the Wild Mountain meet, which concluded conference action for the Park-Woodbury-East Ridge alpine ski team. The PWER racers now gear up for Wednesday’s Section 4 race, also to be held at Wild Mountain.
Koprucki figures to be among the top contenders in the girls section. Fellow Raptors racer Jack Midtlien – who recorded two top-five finishes in SEC action – will be among the top competitors on the boys’ side.
At the Jan. 31 meet, the East Ridge boys earned a second-place finish. Drew Del Toro led all Raptors with a 12th-place finish at the meet. The Raptors’ Colton Simon, Mike Youngstrom and Midlien combined to secure the 19th through 21st places, respectively. Oliver Kennedy also finished in the top 30.
The Royals finished seventh at the final SEC meet. They were led by Matt Stefely (26th place) and Dan Knutson (36th). Davis Johnson finished in 39th place.
Park closed out the last SEC meet with a 10th-place finish. Top skiers for the Wolfpack were Lane Crose (23) and Brian Buckner, who finished in 45th place in the 94-racer field.
The East Ridge girls wrapped up the last meet with a third-place finish. Finishing behind Koprucki were Morgan Maxwell and Jessie Lepel, whose times were good enough for seventh and 12th places overall. Karla Brady and Abby Eggers finished 26th and 27th, respectively.
Woodbury came in fifth at the Jan. 31 meet, led by Brittany Roth, who placed 24th. Fellow Royals racer Melanie Loudas skied to a 33rd-place finish.
The Wolfpack skied to an eighth-place finish at the last SEC meet. They were led by Andrea Kuzj, who finished in 21st place. Kaitlyn Cornwell and Stephanie Iverson rounded out Park’s top finishers, placing 41st and 42nd, respectively.
